Top. one of the best songs ever written. A historical record really, with the best crew Blackmore ever had. And the sum it all up in Stargazer.
I will say this though:Stargazer is one of my FAVORITE songs of all time. From the pounding drums and driving keyboards to the EPIC storytelling & vocals from Dio.I love this track. From the artwork to the songs themselves everything is perfect.
Crazy. When it comes on my ipod while I'm working (painting houses) or at my house I play it no less than 4 times in a row Tarot Woman 9/10Run With the Wolf 9/10Starstruck 8.5/10Do you Close Your Eyes 8/10Stargazer 20/10.Light in the Black 10/10. Maybe.but IMHO it is the truth.
I cannot say a single bad thing about this album. etc.
I don't feel the need to be verbose since many previous reviews did a wonderful job at breaking the album down into detail. For me it is right up there in the top 10 alongside Freebird, Stairway to Heavan, etc.
While the following "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" album with Blackmore, Dio, Powell, Daisley, and Stone was also very good, I think this album is better. What really makes it an outstanding album is the pair of related songs, "Stargazer" and "A Light in the Black" each of which clocks in at over 8 minutes, even in these studio versions. In my book, they rank up there with Rush's 2112 and Hemispheres.
And they knew it. While the other songs on this album are also good, it is these two songs that really make this album special. This is the album when Rainbow rose to greatness.
As far as I'm concerned, this is the best studio album that Rainbow ever made. Taken together, these two songs form one of the great epics of 1970s progressive rock.
It also has a beautiful and distinctive painting on the cover, one of my favorites from any rock album. It featured the second, classic Rainbow lineup with guitar hero, Ritchie Blackmore, super-talented singer/songwriter Ronnie James Dio, drummer Cozy Powell, bassist Jimmy Bain, and keyboardist Tony Carey.
They're related because the narrator in the second song is clearly one of the freed slaves who helped build the tower for the stargazer in the first song.
BUY IT NOW. Cozy Powell plays the heaviest drums of his career. The best Rainbow album ever and possibly Blackmore's best work. Stargazer is worth the price of the cd alone.
rainbow rising is the second album by rainbow,by the time they started recording this album ritchie had replaced almost every band member that was on the debut album, with this new line up of; cozy powell-drums,tony carey-keyboards,jimmy bain-bass,ronnie dio-vocals and ritchie blackmore guitar genius.at the time of this incarnation of rainbow, ritchie and ronnie were into dabbling in the black arts.the mystical lyrics of songs like; stargazer, tarot woman, run with the wolf and light in the black reflect this dark fascination and rumour had it that when they were recording long live rock and roll, they were experiencing strange psychic phenomena.whether this is true or not i don,t know.but for a dio fan this album will take you to strange places.get it.
